What Fire Officials Reported
According to a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson, three people were shot and transported to area hospitals, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. The station said the shooting happened near businesses on South Commercial Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, and that no further information was immediately available.
Of the three victims, one was in serious-to-critical condition while the other two were listed as fair-to-serious, per the fire department's account relayed to the station. CPD reported that an unknown offender in a silver SUV opened fire and that the SUV fled eastbound toward 87th Street. Earlier this month, a separate shooting left three people seriously injured in West Garfield Park on a Sunday morning, according to Chicago police cited by the Chicago Sun-Times. That shooting struck in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard at 7:11 a.m., when police said two people got out of a dark-colored sedan and opened fire. A 25-year-old was shot in the chest and was in critical condition, while a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were struck in the body and listed in serious condition, the paper reported. No one had been taken into custody in that case, police said.
