Thundercat is bringing his six-string bass and his new album Distracted to Orlando Sunday, October 4, with a show at The Plaza Live starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Milk District stop range from $58 to $81, part of a 32-date run that finds the Grammy-winning musician touring behind his fifth solo studio album.
The Orlando date lands two days after the tour's October 2 show at the Miami Beach Bandshell, the first date on the itinerary. Hoodline covered the Miami show. DJ and producer Kitty Ca$h is among the supporting acts, appearing on the early Florida dates, according to Northern Transmissions. As Orlando Weekly notes, the artist born Stephen Bruner still goes by the nickname the “goth hoochie daddy” alongside his better-known Thundercat moniker.
A New Record With a Posthumous Mac Miller Feature
Distracted, released in April 2026 through Brainfeeder, marks Bruner's first full-length solo album since 2020's It Is What It Is. The record includes a previously unheard collaboration with Mac Miller, Bruner's late friend, titled She Knows Too Much, alongside guest spots from Tame Impala, A$AP Rocky, WILLOW, and Lil Yachty, per Orlando Weekly.
Bruner's bass playing has made him one of modern funk's most recognizable low-end musicians, a reputation built over more than a decade of session and studio work. Rolling Stone has ranked him among the greatest bass players of all time.
From Suicidal Tendencies to Kendrick Lamar
Long before headlining tours of his own, Bruner spent nearly nine years as the touring bassist for West Coast crossover thrash metal group Suicidal Tendencies, joining while still a high school student, according to Factory International. He later made major contributions as a bassist on Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly.
That studio work helped earn Bruner two Grammy Awards: Best Rap/Sung Performance in 2016 for Lamar's These Walls, and Best Progressive R&B Album in 2021 for his own LP It Is What It Is. His musical pedigree runs in the family — his father, Ronald Bruner Sr., drummed for Diana Ross and The Temptations, while his older brother, Ronald Bruner Jr., is a Grammy-winning drummer in his own right.
