A 63-year-old Tippecanoe man was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison after a Harrison County jury convicted him of shooting a New Philadelphia tanker truck driver in the head following a roadside dispute over his lawn. Mickey Green shot 50-year-old Steven Andrews on April 5, 2025, near Green's property on Norris Road and Moravian Trail Road, and Andrews died from the wound about two weeks later.
According to Cleveland 19 News, the confrontation began after Andrews drove the tanker truck onto the edge of Green's lawn. Green yelled at Andrews over it, and Andrews stopped the truck and walked toward him. Green then drew a handgun and shot the unarmed Andrews in the head, according to the outlet's reporting.
Andrews was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Canton with a single gunshot wound. As reported by the Harrison News-Herald, he remained on life support as of April 6, 2025, the day after deputies responded around 6:33 p.m. to reports of a shooting near the intersection in Franklin Township. Green, of Deersville, was taken into custody at the scene, the paper reported.
Prosecutors Say a Single Shot Was Fatal
At trial, Assistant Attorney General Seth Enlow told jurors that “Green possessed the pistol, he fired once. It struck Steven Andrews in the head,” according to a report from wtov9.com. Defense attorney Charles Amato countered that Green acted in self-defense, telling jurors that “Mr. Andrews stopped his truck, and confronted Mr. Green,” per the same report.
The jury ultimately rejected Green's self-defense claim after a three-day trial, per Cleveland 19 News. He was found guilty on two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
Sentence Includes Lifetime Registration Risk
Green was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison. Cleveland 19 News reports that if he is ever released, he will be required to register as a violent offender.
Court filings referenced in a report from yourohionews.com had earlier described the charges against Green somewhat differently, listing two unspecified murder felonies alongside a first-degree felony for firing a weapon over a public roadway, a second-degree felony for felonious assault, and a third-degree felony for having a weapon under disability — a detail not reflected in other outlets' accounts of the case.
