A 37-year-old Vincennes man is accused of setting a house fire that killed a young woman earlier this week. Shane Michael Carie was arrested Thursday and now faces preliminary charges of murder and arson in connection with the blaze on North 11th Street.
Carie was taken into custody by investigators with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, with assistance from the Vincennes Police Department, according to wwbl.com. He faces charges of murder and arson, per mywabashvalley.com.
The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Monday at a home on North 11th Street in Vincennes, the outlet reported. Neighbors told firefighters they heard an explosion, according to wzdm.com. WTHI-TV gave the address as 1226 North 11th Street.
Victim Identified After Hospital Transfer
The woman who died has been identified as Aileese Tucker. She was pulled from the burning home and transferred to an Indianapolis hospital, where she died Tuesday from injuries sustained in the fire, the same mywabashvalley.com report states. The Marion County Coroner's Office formally identified her as the victim, per a separate mywabashvalley.com report.
Tucker was identified as 18 years old.
