A 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were wounded Thursday night after someone opened fire from a passing car while they stood in an apartment entryway on Chicago's West Side. The gunfire struck the man in the hand and the woman in the abdomen before the vehicle sped away, leaving both victims to be rushed to separate hospitals.
According to CBS News, Chicago police said the pair were standing in the entryway of an apartment building in the 1600 block of North Mason Avenue when shots rang out from a white car. The man was taken to Mt. Sinai, while the woman was transported to Loyola Hospital. Both were listed in fair condition following the attack.
Investigators have not disclosed a description of the shooter or the vehicle beyond its white color, and the outlet's report does not indicate a motive for the shooting. The car fled the scene immediately after the gunfire, according to the same account.

Area Five detectives have been assigned to investigate the shooting, per the report, and as of Friday's update, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident. The lack of a suspect description leaves the investigation in its early stages.
The 1600 block of North Mason Avenue has seen gun violence before. WGN-TV previously reported that two 20-year-old men were shot at the same address around 2:20 p.m. on a Monday, with one struck in the right ankle and the other in the upper right thigh. Both of those men were taken to Illinois Masonic in stable condition, that report noted. It is not known from available reporting whether the two incidents are connected.
