A 1-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday after falling from a third-floor window at a home in Chicago's West Woodlawn neighborhood, according to police. The fall happened just after 11 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Vernon Avenue, and the child was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Chicago police told ABC7 Chicago that the boy fell from a third-floor window at a South Side home in the West Woodlawn area. He was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition, and no other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Investigators Looking Into How the Fall Happened
Area One detectives have been assigned to investigate the incident, per the same account. Authorities had not released additional details about what led up to the fall as of Friday afternoon, and it remains unclear what more investigators may find as they look into the circumstances.
Falls from upper-floor windows involving young children have drawn attention elsewhere in the country. In July 2024, a 15-month-old died after falling from a third-story window, an incident later reported by WBKO, which said the boy was taken to a hospital but later died. Separately, a 3-year-old died after falling from an apartment window in St. Louis, according to police, as reported by WDBJ7.
No Further Details Released
Beyond the boy's condition and the location of the fall, Chicago authorities have not shared additional information about the West Woodlawn case. It is not yet known what investigators have found regarding how the child came to fall from the window, and no further updates had been provided as of Friday.
