A woman was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of a Citgo gas station on Indianapolis's east side, but investigators believe the shooting itself happened at the 6800 block of David Court. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to check the welfare of a person at the gas station and instead discovered the wounded woman sitting inside a black Jeep Commander.
Officers were called to the Citgo station at 4201 N. Emerson Ave. in Indianapolis. As reported by WISH-TV, the woman was reported awake and breathing when Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services transported her to the hospital.
Investigators believe the victim actually suffered her injuries in the 6800 block of David Court. The station's report notes that the black Jeep Commander she was found in had damage to its driver's-side tail light, though police have not said what led to the shooting or released any information about a suspect.
A May Shooting on Emerson Avenue
In May, a shooting at a Conoco gas station near 10th Street and North Emerson Avenue left one man dead and another in critical condition following an argument, an incident Hoodline covered in its report on the fatal shootout.

Citywide Numbers Tell a Different Story
Despite the repeated violence along this stretch of the east side, Indianapolis has seen historic improvement in its broader crime statistics. IMPD reported this month that non-fatal shootings citywide have dropped nearly 40% compared to the previous year, according to a report from CBS4 Indy. Indianapolis recorded 133 homicides in 2025, a nearly 45% decline from the city's record high of 241 homicides in 2021, per WFYI.
Marion County prosecutors have also posted strong conviction numbers in murder cases that went to jury trial, securing a conviction rate above 90% for the third consecutive year in 2025, with 38 guilty verdicts across 42 jury trials, according to WTHR. The September Citgo shooting and May Conoco shooting occurred along the Emerson Avenue corridor.
