A woman has been sentenced to 54 months after pleading guilty to shoving a 24-year-old Taylor Swift concertgoer onto the tracks at the Division Blue Line station in June 2023, with a train entering the station only seconds after the victim scrambled to safety.

Neveah King pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a transit passenger, according to CWB Chicago. Prosecutors said King lunged at the young woman on the Division platform on June 4, 2023, as she waited for a train downtown to catch a Taylor Swift concert at Soldier Field, and then pushed her onto the tracks. The victim landed on her feet, and officials said a Blue Line train pulled into the station within seconds of her climbing back to safety.

Chaotic Scene at the Station

King also allegedly pushed down another woman while leaving the station that same night, per the outlet's reporting. Chicago police officers who responded to the Division Blue Line station detained King about 30 minutes after the alleged attack.

Despite that quick detainment, the case took an unusual turn. The concertgoer did not file a police report until the day after the attack, by which point King had already been released, the report notes. Investigators say victims and other witnesses later identified King as the offender in photo lineups on June 18, 2023.

A Second Arrest and a Dismissed Charge

One account states King had been held at Cook County Jail since her July 1, 2023, arrest; CWB Chicago also reports that police spotted and took her into custody at the Jackson Red Line station two weeks after the June 18 identifications, on July 2.

King was originally charged with attempted murder in connection with the shove, but Judge Mary Anna Planey dismissed that charge, leaving the aggravated battery count as the basis for her plea and sentence.

Sentence Means Little Additional Time Behind Bars

Judge Planey handed down the 54-month sentence, but King received credit for 1,185 days already spent in jail, and is not expected to serve additional prison time as a result. Under state law, the sentence will effectively be reduced to 27 months, according to the same account.

Other cases have also involved attacks on Chicago transit. A separate case in November 2025 involved a federal terrorism charge tied to an attack on a Blue Line train, a charge that a snippet from Click2Houston said could carry up to a life sentence. Separately, FOX 32 Chicago has reported on prosecutors detailing the killing of a 29-year-old man who was pushed off a moving CTA Red Line train.

CWB Chicago, which reported on King's sentencing, was founded in 2013 by five Wrigleyville and Boystown residents and has covered Chicago crime news since. No further court dates tied to King's case were included in available reporting.
