Leg warmers and mixtape nostalgia are heading back to Zionsville's brick streets this Thursday, when the town's second annual ’80s Night takes over Main Street from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The free community event invites neighbors to shop local, dress up in retro gear, and catch live music at multiple venues along the historic corridor.
The night kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m. on Thursday, according to WISH-TV, with organizers encouraging attendees to support participating businesses along the way. Dressing in ’80s-themed clothing is encouraged but not required, the outlet notes, and the event is designed to draw a repeat of the large crowd that turned out for the inaugural celebration in 2025.
Musically, the evening is stacked. Retro rock band The Pigeons play at Market Square at Cohatch at 6 p.m., handing things off to Zionsville-based band The Janeways, who take the stage at Zionsville Public House from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., per the event schedule listed on Main Street Zionsville's event page. Zionsville Public House itself opened at 10615 Zionsville Road in the former Village Station space under the leadership of retired military officer Marcus White, according to the Kelly Todd Group.
A Guitarist's Take on Why Themed Nights Work
Amanda Leet, a guitarist for The Janeways, said the event is designed to bring adults together to relive their teenage years, per WISH-TV. She added that themed nights like this one can foster community spirit and boost local commerce, framing the evening as more than just nostalgia for nostalgia's sake.
Beyond the music, Rush on Main will host ’80s trivia, and shoppers browsing participating stores can enter to win one of several cassette-tape-themed gift bags, with one winner per location, WISH-TV reports. 530 Home is contributing candles to the bags, while Zionsville Olive Oil Company is supplying specialty oils; other bags may include Zionsville-themed coloring books and restaurant coupons. Participating locations across town will also offer themed activities and discounts throughout the evening.
Alcohol Rules Along the Historic Brick Corridor
Anyone hoping to sip a drink while strolling should know the rules. Zionsville's year-round Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, approved by the Town Council in late 2024, permits adults 21 and older to carry approved alcoholic beverages along Main Street between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., according to the Indianapolis Business Journal. During ’80s Night specifically, DORA drinks must be purchased at participating businesses.
The event is also officially backed by local sponsors Stock Yards Bank & Trust and Radiant Skin, as reported by WTTS. They are among the event's listed sponsors.
A Historic Backdrop, Busy September Calendar
The bricks under ’80s Night's feet carry their own history. Main Street was first paved with bricks in 1911 alongside interurban trolley lines, and sections of the roadway were preserved and rebuilt through a volunteer Save the Bricks initiative in the 1970s, according to Main Street Zionsville. The event unfolds in Zionsville, alongside the historic brick streets.
’80s Night lands in the middle of a packed September lineup for downtown Zionsville. The month has already included the Sip, Stroll & Shop passport event on Sept. 10 and the 73rd annual Lions Club Fall Festival from Sept. 11 through 13, according to Discover Boone County. The Zionsville Chamber of Commerce's annual Street Dance, usually held in early August, was pushed back this year due to weather and now lands on Sept. 26, per the Kelly Todd Group.
That crowded calendar reflects the activity in downtown Zionsville. Zionsville's DORA district includes Main Street along the historic strip.
