A death investigation is underway on Indianapolis' northwest side after emergency crews found a body in the water near Eagle Creek Park Thursday. The person's identity has not been released, and investigators have not said how the person died.
Police and emergency crews responded to the Eagle Creek boat ramp off Dandy Trail after receiving reports of a body in the water, according to WTHR. Indiana conservation officers are expected to handle the investigation moving forward, the station reports.

Eagle Creek Reservoir has been the site of multiple water-rescue and recovery operations in recent years, though none of those earlier incidents are known to be connected to Thursday's discovery. In one prior case, the Pike Township Fire Department recovered a body at the reservoir after crews were dispatched to the Eagle Creek Boat Ramp for a dive rescue, with IMPD homicide investigators also responding, according to FOX59.

Separately this year, a man died after going underwater while trying to retrieve a fishing boat that had drifted away, FOX59 reported. Divers with the Indianapolis Fire Department Dive Team searched for about 30 minutes before locating him; he was initially found in critical condition and later died.
In another past search near Rick's Boatyard Cafe, fire crews from Indianapolis, Pike Township and Wayne Township worked alongside the Department of Natural Resources, which eventually located a body using sonar equipment, according to a report from Yahoo News.
