We now know the new concept taking over the space occupied by former Castro brunch spot Kitchen Story (3499 16th Street).
A sign for Jandii Cafe went up this week. The new cafe from the team behind Sweet Maple and Blackwood will be opening soon.
In January, Kitchen Story owners Steven and Ji Yeon Choi announced the restaurant would close after 13 years and pivot to a new concept.

Jandii Cafe offers a simple menu of fresh scones with butter and jam, matcha imported from Japan, and coffee.
The first Jandii location opened in June at 1100 Taraval in the Parkside neighborhood.

As reported by SFGate, Jiyeon Choi explained, “Everything will be geared towards the enjoyment of a scone, the enjoyment of a matcha, and the enjoyment of an espresso drink."
According to Jiyeon Choi, 'Jandi' translates to "a lush, green meadow," and the cafe will be designed to evoke earth tones, plants, and "the spirit of meadows, flowers, trees, birds, and clouds."
Kitchen Story opened in November 2012, taking over the space previously occupied by Tangerine. The restaurant quickly became popular, with large crowds gathering outside.
In 2018, Kitchen Story spinoff U: Dessert Story opened next door, by restaurant general manager Tammy Boonlieng and Yaya Chok.
An opening date for Jandii has not been announced at this time.
