Indianapolis is starting Monday under clear skies near 50 degrees, with a sunny and mild afternoon ahead. The high should reach about 72 degrees, setting the tone for a remarkably dry stretch of fall weather across central Indiana.
Tuesday will look much the same, with sunshine, light winds and a high near 74. Monday night will be cooler, dipping to around 45 degrees, while Tuesday night settles near 52.
Warmth Builds By Midweek
Wednesday is expected to be the warmest day of the workweek, with sunny skies and a high near 80. Southwest winds of 5 to 12 mph could gust as high as 18 mph, adding a little movement to an otherwise quiet forecast.
Thursday and Friday will remain sunny and seasonably warm, with highs near 76 and 77 degrees. Saturday could reach 79, keeping outdoor plans in good shape before the forecast turns slightly less certain late in the weekend.
Dry Weather Brings A Fire-Weather Concern
The extended dry spell comes with afternoons that could see humidity fall into the 30% range or lower. There are no watches or warnings in effect, but dry conditions and occasional breezes may allow fires to spread more easily, so extra care with outdoor flames is warranted.
Some outlying areas northeast of Indianapolis could briefly see patchy frost late Monday night into Tuesday morning if temperatures run colder than expected. Widespread or significant frost is not currently anticipated in the city.
A Freeze-Date Benchmark
The National Weather Service Indianapolis lists October 26 as the city’s average first freeze date. That is a climatological benchmark, not an average frost date, and it does not establish when frost typically occurs in outlying areas; the patchy frost mentioned above is a forecast for this week.
Rain Chances Hold Off Until Sunday
The first measurable rain chance arrives late Saturday night, when there is a 20% chance of showers after 2 a.m. Sunday could still be mostly sunny and warm, with a high near 81 and another 20% chance of rain showers.
