Indianapolis started Friday under clear skies and temperatures in the mid-50s, but a warm mid-70s afternoon is ahead. The bigger change arrives Saturday night, when rain showers move in and linger into Sunday.
Friday Brings Summerlike Warmth
Skies should stay sunny Friday, with a high in the mid-70s and south-southeast winds between 1 and 7 mph. Dry air will push afternoon humidity lower, creating minor fire-weather concerns, though light winds should keep the risk limited.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday night will bring increasing cloudiness, with lows ranging from the upper 40s in the east to the lower 50s in the west. Saturday will be mostly cloudy and cooler, topping out in the mid-70s, with wind gusts reaching 22 mph.
Weekend Rain Arrives Saturday Night
Rain showers are expected after 8 p.m. Saturday, with an 80% chance of precipitation and widespread rainfall; a 1.0-to-1.5-inch event is possible if the system track holds. Winds from the east-southeast could gust as high as 25 mph, making umbrellas a slightly more complicated accessory than usual.
Rain is expected to peak overnight into Sunday morning and taper Sunday evening, followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high in the upper 60s. Sunday night should turn partly cloudy and quieter, with temperatures dipping to around 58.
Warm Weather Returns Monday
Monday brings mostly sunny skies and another warm high in the upper 70s. A deeper trough and strong cold front are forecast to affect central Indiana Tuesday, with low confidence in precipitation with the frontal passage. Rain chances may increase late Wednesday into Thursday.
No watches or warnings are in effect for the Indianapolis area. For outdoor plans, Friday and Saturday afternoon look like the best windows before the weekend rain arrives.
