Indianapolis starts Thursday mostly cloudy and around 64 degrees, but the afternoon could bring a sharp change. Temperatures are expected to climb near 77 before showers and thunderstorms move through later in the day.

Storms Could Bring Damaging Winds
The main concern Thursday afternoon and evening is strong, damaging wind gusts, with isolated storms potentially producing gusts up to 60 mph. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, but damaging straight-line winds are expected to be the more likely severe-weather threat.
Rainfall could total roughly one-half to one inch, with localized ponding possible in poor-drainage areas. Anyone with outdoor plans should be ready to move inside after midafternoon and keep weather alerts turned on through the evening.
Friday Turns Windy And Much Cooler
Showers may linger Friday, when Indianapolis is expected to reach only about 58 degrees. Northwest winds of 18 to 25 mph could gust between 25 and 35 mph, making it feel considerably colder than Thursday.
Saturday brings sunshine but a high near 55, followed by a clear night with temperatures dropping to around 36 degrees. Widespread frost is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning, with a localized freeze possible in sheltered rural areas.
Warmup Arrives Early Next Week
Sunday should rebound to about 63 degrees after the chilly start, followed by sunny conditions and highs near 69 Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday remains mild and sunny, with a high near 70.
