A new coffee shop in Fishers is giving night owls somewhere to go that isn't a bar. Mocha House Indy has opened with traditional Yemeni coffee drinks, espresso pulled from Yemeni beans, and a majlis-style lounge where guests sit on floor cushions instead of sofas, staying open until 11 p.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends.
The shop focuses on coffee, pastries and hospitality, according to WISH-TV, with manager Saad telling the station that the shop sources its beans especially from Yemen. He said the late hours are meant to give customers an alternative to louder nightlife spots, and that the goal is simply to make people feel at home.
The centerpiece of that hospitality is the majlis, a traditional Arabic seating area built into the shop. Saad said the space offers customers a comfortable way to gather together, with guests settling onto floor cushions rather than sofas for a more communal, low-key hangout.
Fruit-Shaped Cakes Draw Social Media Buzz
Mocha House Indy has also picked up attention online for its fruit-shaped cakes, which come in mango and raspberry flavors. Per WISH-TV, the cakes have a crisp exterior and a fruit-flavored filling, and Saad recommended biting straight into one to get the full effect of both layers at once.
A separate visit documented by welikeindy.com in April found a Fishers coffee and dessert shop called Bayt Al Mocha at 13094 Publishers Dr., describing a Snickers Cake, Bee Bites and a Bubble Fruit Cake alongside drinks like a Matcha Latte Qisher with Ube Cold Foam, a Mango Lassi Smoothie and a Dragon Fruit Refresher. The outlet's account shares the same Fishers setting and mocha-themed branding described in the WISH-TV report.
Part of a Growing Late-Night Coffee Scene
Mocha House Indy's arrival fits a broader pattern in the region. Central Indiana is now home to at least eight Muslim-owned coffee and dessert shops, according to Yahoo News, which reports that these spots are filling a gap for family-friendly, alcohol-free late-night social spaces in the Indianapolis area.
Other Fishers businesses are part of that same wave. Mariam Coffee's Fishers location stays open until 9 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends, the outlet notes, while Melt 'n Dip, a Lebanese dessert franchise also located in Fishers, focuses on chocolate-based treats alongside its tea and coffee menu.
Nearby in Noblesville, Yafa Golden Coffee offers another take on the Yemeni coffee tradition. The shop grows coffee on family farms in Yafa, Yemen, then brings the beans to the United States and roasts them in-house, according to WRTV. The station reports the shop also serves handmade pastries based on recipes from Yemen, with comfy couches and intimate spaces drawing remote workers and families playing board games until the shop closes at midnight.
Whether at Mocha House Indy's majlis or the couches at Yafa Golden Coffee, the appeal appears to be the same: a quiet, caffeinated alternative to the bar scene that keeps its doors open well past the dinner hour.
