A 41-year-old Greenville woman is being held without bond after police say she injured two people with a sharp object earlier this month, leaving one victim with a severed tendon and another needing dozens of stitches to close wounds on the face. Ashley Lakeia Smith was arrested on Sunday and now faces two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
According to warrants cited by WCTI, the incident took place on October 17. One person suffered cuts to the right hand and left forearm, with the hand wound severe enough to cut a tendon, requiring stitches and a brace to stabilize the injury during recovery.
A second victim was cut across the nose and under the eye, according to the warrants, and needed between 24 and 28 stitches to close the wounds.
Charges Carry Felony Weight Under State Law
Smith is accused of injuring both people with a sharp object, and the warrants list two separate counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury against her. Under North Carolina law, that charge falls under G.S. 14-32.4, the statute covering assault inflicting serious bodily injury, strangulation, and related penalties.
Following her arrest Sunday, Smith was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond. The same account notes she was scheduled to appear in court Monday, though no information on the outcome of that hearing has been made available.
What Remains Unknown
Several details of the case have not been made public. The identities and current conditions of the two injured people beyond their treated wounds have not been released, and it is not known whether Smith's scheduled court appearance has resulted in any further proceedings or a plea. No additional police reports or court documents have been made available beyond the warrant details reported by WCTI.
