Three people were shot overnight at a gas station in the 11600 block of South Michigan Avenue in West Pullman, with victims ranging in age from 17 to 24 left wounded in the shoulder, torso and ankle. All three were taken in a white vehicle to Roseland Community Hospital, according to police.
Chicago police say someone inside a black SUV opened fire at the gas station while the three victims were present, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. An 18-year-old was shot in the shoulder, a 17-year-old was shot in the torso, and a 24-year-old was shot in the ankle, the outlet reports. All three were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition.
Area 2 detectives are investigating the shooting, per the same report. The gas station sits in territory covered by the Chicago Police Department's 5th District, known as Calumet and headquartered at 727 E. 111th St., according to the Chicago Police Department.
A Gas Station With a Violent Past
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted at this exact block. On August 31, 2022, 25-year-old Dezmond Radcliffe was fatally shot by two gunmen at a gas station in the same 11600 block of South Michigan Avenue before the attackers fled in a silver sedan, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Years earlier, on July 24, 2014, 39-year-old Anthony Edwards was shot multiple times and killed by an approaching gunman at a gas station on the same block around 3:15 a.m., as reported by DNAinfo.
The pattern extends beyond this single block. A 19-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting outside a gas station near 127th Street and Wentworth Avenue in West Pullman before exchanging gunfire with the shooter. Two 35-year-old men were also shot and critically injured while sitting inside an SUV near 116th and Ada streets, just blocks west of Michigan Avenue.
Hospitals Serving the Far South Side
Roseland Community Hospital has an Acute Care Unit. Primary designated Level 1 trauma centers serving the Far South Side include Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and UChicago Medicine.
It is unclear who fired the shots or why, and investigators have not said whether surveillance footage from the gas station could help identify the black SUV involved. Area 2 detectives are investigating the shooting. Calumet Area detectives investigated the circumstances after an unidentified man was found fatally shot on the 800 block of West 117th Street, a case Hoodline previously reported.
Proposed Surveillance Rules for Businesses
In June 2025, Chicago City Council members introduced proposed ordinance O2025-0018186 concerning video surveillance camera installations at public-facing licensed businesses, including gas stations, according to the Police District Councils.
Separately, gas-station Nuisance Abatement Plans under Municipal Code of Chicago Section 4-4-285 call for 24-camera HD video surveillance, high-intensity exterior lighting, and restricted overnight operating hours, per the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. Whether such measures will be applied to the South Michigan Avenue location remains to be seen.
The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents Hoodline has tracked across West Pullman in recent months. No further details on suspects or motive have been released.
