Horror fans across Utah can skip sleep this weekend for Ghostface instead. Select Megaplex Theatres locations are hosting an overnight marathon of all seven Scream films starting at 10 p.m. Friday, October 30, running 15 hours and 40 minutes including one break built in along the way.
According to ABC4 Utah, the marathon includes a 55-minute pause somewhere in the lineup, giving bleary-eyed attendees a chance to stretch, refill their popcorn, or just reconsider their life choices before diving back into the slasher saga. The chain is promising, per the station's report, fun activations at every theater showing the marathon, though specifics on what those activations entail weren't detailed. As reported by City Weekly, the lineup covers the entire franchise beginning with the 1996 meta-slasher movie that started it all.
Ticket Price Remains Murky
Here's where things get a little confusing for anyone trying to budget their night. ABC4 Utah's reporting lists the marathon ticket at $50, while City Weekly puts the price at $79.99, including refillable concessions. ABC4 reports that the ticket covers unlimited popcorn and soda refills; City Weekly describes its ticket as including refillable concessions. The dollar figure itself depends on which source you trust.
Showtimes for the marathon are currently listed on Megaplex's own site for a handful of Utah locations, including Ogden at The Junction, Vineyard at Geneva, and Sandy at Jordan Commons. The event is also promoted directly on Megaplex's Scream MegaMarathon page.
A Franchise Built Across Three Decades
For anyone wondering just how big a commitment this is, the Scream franchise spans thirty years of release dates. The original Scream hit theaters in 1996 at a runtime of 1 hour 51 minutes, followed by Scream 2 in 1997 (2 hours) and Scream 3 in 2000 (1 hour 56 minutes). The series went quiet for over a decade before Scream 4 arrived in 2011 at 1 hour 51 minutes, then picked back up with Scream 5 in 2022 (1 hour 54 minutes) and Scream 6 in 2023 (2 hours 3 minutes). The newest entry, Scream 7, released in 2026 with a runtime of 1 hour 54 minutes, rounds out the marathon's lineup.
Not Megaplex's First Marathon Rodeo
This isn't the chain's first attempt at testing moviegoers' endurance. Megaplex also promoted a three-film Jurassic Rewind MegaMarathon earlier this year covering Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III, with guests able to choose a meal package or unlimited popcorn. Back in January, the chain ran a five-film Hunger Games marathon with $50 tickets that similarly included unlimited popcorn and soda. And in August, Megaplex went even bigger with a 22-hour marathon covering all eight Harry Potter films.
Whether the Scream marathon ends up being a $50 night or a $79.99 one, the format is clearly becoming a signature move for the Utah theater chain heading into Halloween weekend. For horror diehards willing to pull an all-nighter, Friday's screening offers a rare chance to watch the entire Ghostface saga unfold in a single sitting, popcorn bucket in hand.
