A 20-year-old wanted for a fatal shooting in Mound Bayou, Mississippi has been captured hundreds of miles away in Indianapolis, where U.S. Marshals found him sitting in a vehicle nearly three weeks after the killing. Izeekia Sanders now sits in a Marion County jail cell awaiting extradition back to Mississippi, where he faces charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The case traces back to September 20, when Mound Bayou police were called to a shooting near the 500 block of Stringer Avenue, according to WREG. Officers arrived to find one man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head; he was later identified as 20-year-old Armad Gant. The shooting happened at approximately 2:10 p.m., according to the Delta Daily News, which reported that a second victim suffered a superficial gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken by ambulance to Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, Mississippi.
That second victim was released after being treated at the hospital, per WREG's reporting. Mound Bayou police issued a murder warrant for Sanders, and the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office joined the investigation alongside local officers.

A Multi-State Manhunt Ends in a Parked Car
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, U.S. Marshals located Sanders in a vehicle near the 1300 block of 30th Street in Indianapolis and took him into custody. The operation required coordination between two federal task forces spanning multiple states, according to DeSoto County News: the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, which covers Mississippi, and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force based in Indianapolis.
The Gulf Coast task force, which operates across Alabama and Mississippi, marked its 20th anniversary in July and has apprehended more than 76,000 fugitives since its creation, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Sanders was transported to the Marion County Jail following his arrest and now awaits extradition back to Mississippi.
A Small Delta Town Confronts a Violent Loss
Mound Bayou was founded in 1887 by Isaiah Montgomery and a group of former enslaved people as an independent, historic all-Black municipality in the Mississippi Delta, per Wikipedia's entry on the town. It remains a small community today; population estimates put its 2025-2026 figure at around 1,380 residents, down from 1,534 recorded in the 2020 U.S. Census, according to World Population Review.
The town sits within Bolivar County, where non-Hispanic Black or African American residents make up 63.5% of the population, according to 2026 Census estimates cited by USAFacts. It is there, in Bolivar County, that the case against all three defendants will ultimately be prosecuted once Sanders is returned to face the charges against him.
Mound Bayou police and the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office say the investigation into the shooting will continue even as the legal process against Sanders, McKenzie, and Jefferson moves forward. No court dates for Sanders have been reported, and it remains unclear whether he will contest extradition from Indiana.
