Insanity Haunted House has opened its ninth and final season at the Peru Mall, giving Illinois Valley thrill-seekers one last chance to walk its 10,000-square-foot maze of themed rooms before the attraction packs up for a new location in 2027. The 2026 season kicked off with its first weekend on Sept. 25 and is set to run through the first weekend of November.
The haunted house, found at 3940 Illinois Route 251 inside the mall, has grown considerably since setting up shop there, according to Shaw Local. The outlet reports the attraction has expanded to more than 10,000 square feet since its move to the mall, and this will be its last season there after nine years in that space. A move to a new, yet-to-be-announced location in the area is planned for next year.
For 2026, visitors will find more than 40 actors working the themed rooms, plus a brand-new room added specifically for this season. Photos taken at the mall on Oct. 13 and published by Shaw Local show the attraction in full swing as it welcomes thrill-seekers through its closing Peru Mall chapter.
A Nine-Year Run Built On Local Recognition
Insanity Haunted House is owned by Rochelle Police Chief Pete Pavia, per the same Shaw Local report. The attraction has picked up some notable accolades during its time at the mall: it was voted the top haunted house in Illinois by HauntedIllinois.com for four consecutive years, and Illinois Top Five ranked it among the state's scariest haunted houses last year.
Those rankings have helped cement Insanity's reputation in the Illinois Valley haunted-house scene even as its run at the Peru Mall winds down. The nine-year stretch at this location has given the attraction room to grow both in square footage and in cast size, culminating in this year's expanded, 40-plus-actor lineup.
What To Know Before You Go
Tickets for front-of-the-line access, called the Insanity Ticket, run $40, according to the attraction's own website. Groups of 10 or more can take advantage of discounted rates, and the haunted house says it is completely accessible to people with disabilities.
The attraction is not recommended for children age 12 and under due to its graphic and intense content. Photography and video recording are not permitted inside unless media arrangements are made in advance, and guests are barred from touching the actors, with violators subject to being escorted off the premises immediately. There are also no refunds once tickets have been purchased.
