Plainfield's annual Sat-Terror Day festival returns to Talon Stream Park on October 24, running from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with trunk-or-treat, bounce houses, hayrides, horseback rides, and food trucks. The first 800 children through the gates will walk away with a free trick-or-treat bag, and families can also catch a performance from Cincinnati Circus Company aerialists as part of the lineup.
The town announced the lineup in a Town of Plainfield - Government post on Facebook, teasing the question, “What are you doing on October 24th?” before rattling off the day's fall festival activities. The free event is shaping up as one of the bigger draws on the municipality's autumn calendar, combining classic harvest-season fare with the kind of family programming that's become a staple at Talon Stream Park in recent years.
A Park Built on Reclaimed Ground
Talon Stream Park itself has a backstory worth knowing. The 13.6-acre venue sits on what was once the Shouse Landfill, transformed into public green space after a decade-long environmental remediation effort by the Town of Plainfield that wrapped up with the park's official opening in October 2018, according to the Indiana Brownfields Program. The park sits on Pike Lane, directly north of the 133,000-square-foot Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center, and includes a paved trail loop and shelter house running along White Lick Creek.
Families planning to attend can expect a solid vendor spread alongside the rides and games. Per the Town of Plainfield's event calendar, food options include Mr. and Mrs. Hot Dog Stand, Goldies donuts and coffee, and J&J Roasted Corn, plus family entertainment like balloon artists and face painting. The Cincinnati Circus Company, which is booked to perform aerial acrobatics at this year's festival, is a regional production outfit that supplies aerialists, fire performers, and acrobats to community festivals across the Midwest, according to Visit Hendricks County.
Volunteers and Trail Access Round Out the Day
None of it runs without local help. Community volunteers were recruited by the town to staff craft activities, games, and activity waiver tents for the festival, according to Volunteers of Plainfield. Plainfield Parks and Recreation oversees the broader municipal park system, which includes nearly 35 miles of public trails connecting major parks across town via routes like the Vandalia Trail.
Getting there doesn't require a car. Visitors can use Plainfield's Pedal with Plainfield bike-share system, which runs 30 rental bicycles across six docking stations, including one at the neighboring Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center. It's a detail that underscores how closely the town has tied its trail network and recreation facilities together around Talon Stream Park.
Part of a Monthlong Fall Push
Sat-Terror Day isn't a standalone event. It's one piece of a broader autumnal schedule the town has organized for October 2026, which also includes the Hendricks County International Festival on October 3 and the Main Street Candy Crawl in downtown Plainfield on October 31, according to the Town of Plainfield's Instagram account. That puts the daytime festival at Talon Stream Park roughly a week ahead of neighborhood trick-or-treating, which in past years has run during set evening hours on Halloween night in Plainfield, Brownsburg, and Danville, with neighboring Avon on a slightly different schedule, per Exploring Hendricks County.
The town has also used its fall programming to support charitable efforts in years past, serving as a collection site for the countywide Bundle 'Em Up winter coat drive at the Government Center and Carlucci Recreation Center. Whether a similar tie-in returns this year wasn't addressed in the town's announcement, but it fits the pattern of stacking community service onto the season's family events.
