Chicago's Runway LatinX kicks off its three-day run this Friday, bringing a fashion gala, a designer trunk show and a slate of cultural programming under this year's theme, Glam Reimagined. The event, which spans Friday through Sunday, is built around showcasing Latinx designers while raising money for scholarships aimed at young Latina and other BIPOC women.
The event is founded and produced by Arabel Alva Rosales, J.D., according to choosechicago.com. Per Runway LatinX's own site, the weekend highlights fashion, gastronomy, mixology and entertainment, with organizers promising to showcase local and international designers on the runway across the three days.
The centerpiece of the weekend is the RLX Fashion Gala on Saturday, with doors opening at 6 p.m., according to pivotinginheels.net. That evening includes preferred seating at the runway show, VIP reception access and pop-up shopping, the same listing notes. Sunday's programming also features an exclusive trunk show from designer Nena Cavalieri and a Chic Innovator panel focused on beauty and longevity, per the nonprofit's event page.
Event Location
A WGN-TV segment lists the 2026 event at 850 N Lake Shore Drive, with dates of October 23 through 25.
The scholarship fundraising piece is central to how organizers frame the weekend. Runway LatinX is hosted by and benefits Pivoting in Heels, a nonprofit that empowers women, according to the Curio's event listing on curioexperience.com. Organizers say proceeds from the events will go toward scholarships presented to young Latina and other BIPOC women through Pivoting in Heels, per the nonprofit's own site. Runway LatinX has said it plans to award at least six $2,000 scholarships to college-age women, according to the event's website.
A Track Record of Experimental Programming
This isn't Runway LatinX's first attempt at pushing the boundaries of a traditional runway show. Back in 2022, designer Panni Margot of Argentina presented what organizers described at the time as the first runway show generated by artificial intelligence, with designs created using OpenAI, according to ABC7 Chicago. That coverage also noted a full day of the weekend dedicated to women's empowerment, complete with an influencer panel, fashion presentation and shopping.
The event has also grown in stature within Chicago's fashion calendar. Runway LatinX marked its fifth anniversary during the city's inaugural Fashion Week in 2024, ABC7 Chicago reported at the time. The event's own site describes its mission as giving fashion designers an opportunity to express creativity and expand their markets without limits.
Runway LatinX isn't the only effort built around Latino design talent in the broader fashion world. Latino Fashion Week bills itself as the only full week and tour dedicated to Latino fashion in the United States, showcasing designers from Central and South America, the Caribbean and the U.S., according to LatinoScoop.com. Runway LatinX, by contrast, keeps its footprint local to Chicago while folding in gastronomy, mixology and entertainment alongside the runway shows themselves.
