A Salt Lake City firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a house fire that broke out late Monday night and spread from outside the home into the garage and attic. Salt Lake City Fire Department crews responded to the blaze near 900 West around 10:30 p.m. on October 26, and officials said the structure has since been cleared of any victims.
According to KJZZ, the fire was burning near 1100 South 900 West, while ABC4 reported the address as near 1176 South 900 West — a discrepancy that has not been resolved. Both outlets agree the fire started outside the home before extending into the garage and attic.
Firefighter Hurt, No Other Injuries Reported
Salt Lake Fire officials confirmed that one firefighter suffered minor injuries while responding to the scene but disclosed no further details about the extent of the injury, the same report notes. No civilian or other injuries have been reported, and officials said the fire was brought under control with the home cleared of victims.
Per Gephardt Daily, crews were dispatched at 10:08 p.m. and arrived to find an exterior fire that had already spread into a garage and attic, a timeline that aligns with the Fire Department's broader account of the response. As of Wednesday, investigators were still working to determine whether anyone was displaced by the fire, and the cause had not been released.
Pattern of Firefighter Injuries Across Utah
Firefighter injuries while battling structure fires are not unique to this incident. Earlier this year, on January 19, a firefighter was hospitalized after falling while fighting a fire at an industrial business in Centerville, according to KSL. That firefighter was later released from the hospital. Crews from South Davis Metro, Farmington, Kaysville, Layton and Salt Lake City all responded to that blaze, which police first spotted around 3:30 a.m., and no one was inside the business at the time.
The Centerville fire's cause remained under investigation, much like the still-undetermined cause of Monday's Salt Lake City house fire. As KUTV first reported, Salt Lake City Fire Department officials have not yet said what sparked the flames outside the 900 West home, and the investigation into displacement and cause remains active.
