Salt Lake City is waking up Tuesday under cloudy skies near 46 degrees, with showers and thunderstorms expected through the day. The high will struggle to reach 51 degrees, making this a decidedly chilly follow-up to the city’s recent run of warmer October weather.
The National Weather Service puts the chance of precipitation at about 80%, with occasional heavier bursts possible and light northwesterly winds most likely through the morning, potentially becoming variable before becoming established from the northwest by 18Z. Rain is expected in the valley, while higher elevations could see accumulating early-season snow.
The storm system previewed in Hoodline’s earlier forecast will linger into Tuesday night, when scattered rain showers and a low near 40 are expected. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Wasatch through 6 a.m. Wednesday, with snow levels generally around 7,000 to 8,000 feet but potentially lower in heavier precipitation.
Wednesday Stays Cool Before The Skies Clear
Wednesday brings scattered showers, partly sunny skies and a high near 56, followed by another cold night with temperatures dipping to around 39. Some outlying valleys could reach freezing Wednesday and Thursday mornings, so gardeners and early commuters may want to plan accordingly.
Sunshine Takes Over Later This Week
The pattern turns noticeably calmer Thursday, with sunny skies and a high near 64, followed by 67 degrees Friday. The weekend looks even more inviting, with sunny highs near 68 Saturday and 69 Sunday, while Monday could reach 72 under mostly sunny skies.
For Tuesday, umbrellas, waterproof shoes and extra time for a wet commute are the practical wardrobe choices. Anyone heading into the mountains should check conditions before traveling, as rain in the valley may turn into snow at higher elevations.
