Hiller Aviation Museum is turning its San Carlos hangar into a Halloween destination this month, with a lineup that culminates in a witch dropping a pumpkin from a helicopter. The museum is preparing a run of Halloween events that build day by day toward October 31, according to KRON4.
The spooky transformation begins with gallery decorations and a Great Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt running October 23 through 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., per the Hiller Aviation Museum. The museum will also host hands-on activities for children throughout the stretch, and families are encouraged to show up in costume. The Haunted Hangar runs Oct. 23-31, and the museum's Halloween gallery transformation begins Oct. 23.
Paint-a-Plane and a Free Trunk-or-Treat
Kids who want to get their hands dirty can swing by for paint-a-plane sessions on October 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, according to the Mountain View Voice's report. Painting a plane is one of several hands-on activities the museum is including in its October lineup, alongside the pumpkin scavenger hunt.
Trunk-or-treat follows on October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., and it comes at no cost to attend. The same report notes that trunk-or-treat does not require Haunted Hangar admission, making it a standalone free event even as other Halloween activities carry the museum's regular admission charge.
Halloween Day Brings the Main Event
The big finish arrives on Halloween itself, when the museum hosts its Halloween Kids' Festival alongside the Helicopter Pumpkin Drop. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and the museum says on its event page that “the pumpkin drops when the bell tolls noon.” In the museum's telling, a witch is the one sending the pumpkin earthward from the helicopter.
The Halloween lineup also includes a Great Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt. Both the Kids' Festival and the Pumpkin Drop are included with regular museum admission, and members can attend for free simply by showing their membership at the door.
Admission and Location Details
All of the Halloween programming, apart from the free trunk-or-treat, is covered by general museum admission, which the Mountain View Voice lists at $23 for adults, $15 for seniors and for youth ages 4 to 17, and free for children 3 and under. The museum sits at 601 Skyway Road in San Carlos, according to its own event listing.
