San Jose is starting Friday clear and around 61 degrees, but the South Bay still has one warm afternoon left before autumn finally turns the thermostat down. Sunshine will push temperatures into the low 80s, followed by a sharp cooldown that will make this weekend feel like a different season.
Friday Brings One More Warm Afternoon
Friday will be sunny, with a high near 84 and light west winds during the day. The latest National Weather Service forecast calls for a mainly clear night, with a low around 59.
Weekend Temperatures Drop Fast
Saturday will be mostly sunny but much cooler, with a high near 70 and west winds of 4 to 9 mph Saturday afternoon. Sunday cools further to about 66 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and another breezy afternoon.
That is a substantial change from the heat-focused outlook earlier this week, when San Jose was flirting with the 90s. The previous Hoodline forecast had already flagged the weekend cooldown, but the newest update sharpens the timing and adds stronger wind concerns.
Rain Chance Arrives Late Sunday
A slight chance of light rain is possible late Sunday into Monday. Monday should remain mostly sunny overall, with a high near 68, while Tuesday is forecast to be mostly sunny.
The longer-range forecast then turns dry again, with mostly sunny skies Wednesday and very warm weather Thursday. In other words, the weekend will be the chilly intermission, not the start of a permanent sweater season.
Coastal Plans Call For Extra Caution
People heading to the Pacific Coast should be more careful than the sunny San Jose forecast might suggest. The weather service expects hazardous beach conditions from Saturday through Monday, including sneaker-wave and strong-rip-current risks, with breaking waves potentially reaching 16 feet Sunday.
Large tidal swings may also contribute to coastal flooding and erosion, especially around high tide. Stay off jetties, rocks, piers and other shoreline infrastructure, and remain out of the water while these conditions persist.
