San Diego is starting Monday with clear skies and temperatures around 61 degrees, but the calm weather comes with a serious coastal warning. Afternoon temperatures should climb near 79 under sunny skies, while high tides continue to threaten low-lying roads, properties and infrastructure along the coast.

High Tides Keep Coastal Roads At Risk

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for San Diego County coastal areas through 1 p.m. Thursday, with late-morning high tides running 1.5 to 1.7 feet above astronomical predictions. The National Weather Service says tides could rise above 8 feet, bringing flooding to low-lying roads, homes, businesses and critical infrastructure, along with some shoreline erosion.

Drivers should not go around barricades or through water of unknown depth, according to the National Weather Service warning. The flooding threat is tied to the unusually high tides, so sunny skies inland will not necessarily mean trouble-free conditions near beaches, bays and waterfront roads.

Fog Arrives Before A Cooler Midweek

Monday night will stay mostly clear before patchy fog develops after 11 p.m., with a low near 60. Tuesday could begin foggy before turning mostly sunny with a high near 78, followed by a Wednesday high near 76 and a mostly cloudy Thursday near 73.

The calm-to-10 mph northwest winds, with gusts to 20 mph, were forecast for Sunday, October 25.

Rain Chances Build Into Halloween Weekend

Rain may be possible later in the week, when Friday's high should be near 70. Shower chances rise Saturday, including a more likely chance Saturday night, and rain showers remain likely Sunday with a high near 70.

The wetter late-week outlook adds a sharper turn to the forecast described in Hoodline's Sunday update. Anyone planning Halloween weekend activities near the coast should keep both the tide schedule and the increasingly likely showers in mind.
