Shop owner Alexis Jaspe filed a report with the Sweetwater Police Department and is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect, according to CBS News Miami. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the man approaching a shelf of Pokémon products right after finishing a cash transaction at the counter, then helping himself to a stack of card packs.
Backpack Used to Mask the Theft
According to CBS Miami's report, the man placed a backpack on the shelf before sweeping the packs off the display. He reportedly dropped one pack as he walked away, picked it up and continued toward the door.
The stolen packs sold for $7.50 each inside the shop, while other Pokémon products on nearby shelves were priced anywhere from $80 to $350, as noted by CBS Miami. Jaspe estimated the total value of what was taken at less than $120, even though the suspect reportedly grabbed more than a dozen packs in the process.
Owner Says He Was Caught Off Guard
Jaspe told the station, “I feel shocked.” He believes the man may have targeted the Pokémon cards because he thought they were valuable.
Jaspe declined to show his face during the interview. He said he wants the suspect jailed and is concerned the man could steal from another business. He asked anyone who recognizes the man in the video to contact authorities.

Smoke shop thefts caught on camera aren't unheard of in Miami-Dade County. In a separate case from May 2025, a man allegedly walked into a Southwest Miami-Dade smoke shop and made off with nearly $4,000 worth of relaxation pills, according to the shop's owner, per a report from KRDO, as previously reported by CBS Miami. For now, the Sweetwater case remains an open police report, with no suspect identified and no arrest confirmed.
