An ATM was stolen from Osho Market on South Archer Avenue in Brighton Park just before 7 a.m. Sunday, after thieves smashed a window to break into the convenience store. No injuries were reported, and police are still searching for whoever is responsible.

Chicago police said the thieves got into the business by smashing a window before making off with the ATM, according to ABC7 Chicago. Investigators continue to work the case and are looking for the people responsible, the outlet reported, though no suspect descriptions, vehicle details or arrests have been disclosed.

Sunday's theft is far from the first time a business along South Archer Avenue has reported a break-in. A burglary was logged in the 4500 block of South Archer Avenue back on Jan. 12, at 3:29 a.m., according to CBS News Chicago, which reported that police were warning businesses about a string of burglaries spanning eight Chicago neighborhoods between Jan. 12 and Jan. 24.

A Pattern of Smash-and-Grab Hits Along Archer Avenue

Other reported burglaries have clustered on the same stretch of road. The 4200 block of South Archer Avenue saw two separate incidents on September 23, 2025 — one at 2:25 a.m. and another at 2:40 a.m. — while the 4400 block was hit on October 20, 2025, at 5:20 a.m., per records cited by WGN-TV. That station reported that the wave of smash-and-grab burglaries targeting convenience stores across Chicago dates back to September 2025, with up to eight suspects involved, ranging in age from 15 to 25.

Police told WGN-TV that offenders typically force their way into stores by breaking a front glass window or door, then grab cash, bottled alcohol and ATMs. Separately, FOX 32 Chicago reported that five people were seen getting out of a white truck around 2:50 a.m. during one Brighton Park incident in the 4500 block of South Archer Avenue, breaking the front glass door before stealing an ATM and fleeing in a white SUV.

ATM Thefts Have Hit Multiple Chicago Neighborhoods

The tactic of ripping out ATMs has shown up well beyond Brighton Park. In Lincoln Park, burglars backed an SUV into a gas station in the 1600 block of West Fullerton just before 5:30 a.m., according to CBS News Chicago, then dragged the machine to a white pickup truck, loaded it on and drove off.

In Uptown, surveillance footage released by police showed a crew using a chain and an SUV to yank an ATM straight through the storefront of New York Food Mart & Deli at 4136 North Broadway, as detailed by CWBChicago. That outlet reported authorities had tied at least 11 business burglaries across the city since mid-January to the same crew, including another hit in the 4500 block of South Archer Avenue where suspects took cash and cash registers.

Whether Sunday's theft at Osho Market is linked to any of these earlier cases remains unknown. No exact address for the store, the value of the stolen ATM, or the extent of the damage has been released. Chicago police say the investigation into the Brighton Park theft is ongoing.
