GTA VI is giving Miami hip-hop a prominent place on its radio dial: Trick Daddy and Trina will host Dirty South Classics, one of six newly revealed stations. The station celebrates Southern hip-hop, with a strong focus on Miami rap.
The station will broadcast within the game’s Vice City, a fictional world inspired by Miami. Miami New Times reported that Rockstar Games announced the pair as hosts.
The two have worked together on air before. They began hosting the Trick & Trina Morning Show on Miami’s 99 Jamz, WEDR 99.1 FM, in January 2020; HotNewHipHop reported that the show ended in 2021.
A Partnership Forged Decades Before the Mic
Their musical partnership dates to the 1998 track Nann, which helped launch Trina’s career and establish Trick Daddy in Miami’s hip-hop scene, according to the Miami New Times report. Both artists were associated with Miami label Slip-N-Slide Records, founded in 1994 by CEO Ted Lucas, according to Wikipedia.
The announced Dirty South Classics selections include Born-N-Raised by DJ Khaled featuring Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and Pitbull; Who Dat by JT Money featuring Solé; and Like a Pimp by David Banner featuring Lil' Flip, according to the Miami New Times report.
Five Other Stations Round Out the Lineup
The six-station reveal spans several styles. Cocoteo FM, hosted by Bad Bunny and Rainao, features bachata, merengue, dembow, and reggaeton, including Eoo by Bad Bunny and Canalla by Romeo Santos featuring El Chaval de la Bachata. Bad Bunny voices El Martillo and Rainao voices La Gata.
Flash FM is the one station in the October reveal identified as a direct return from 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, where it played 1980s pop, according to Mashable. Its GTA VI hosts are Robyn and Alex Consani; announced tracks include Good Ones by Charli XCX and Electric Feel by MGMT.
What GTA VI Brings Back From Vice City
The original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out in 2002, notes NME. That earlier game is a historical reference point, not evidence that its full radio lineup is returning. In the current reveal, Flash FM is the station identified as a direct return; GTA VI’s announced stations otherwise span distinct formats, from Miami-focused Southern hip-hop to Latin music, metal, and country.
The other newly revealed stations include AfroBank FM, hosted by Burna Boy and Palms Trax; The Chamber 106.6, a heavy metal station with co-hosts Kerry King and Tom Araya; and Back Country Radio, featuring Morgan Wallen, Lana Del Rey, and Jeremy Dufrene.
Artists Join GTA Radio Lineup
The lineup brings together hosts and performers from across genres, including AfroBank FM co-host Palms Trax. In-game radio has been a recurring part of the Grand Theft Auto series across multiple generations of players.
Rockstar Games is also changing how players experience all this audio. Grand Theft Auto VI introduces on-demand podcasts for the first time in the franchise's history, and players will be able to listen to radio stations while walking around Vice City through character-connected headphones and earbuds, rather than being limited to in-vehicle listening. On Thursday, Rockstar launched interactive audio previews on its official website, letting fans stream two-minute samplers of DJ banter and track selections for all six newly revealed stations, according to GamesRadar.
Rockstar says it's assembled its biggest and most diverse collection of radio stations yet, though additional stations and soundtrack details have yet to be announced. Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track soundtrack, is set for release November 19 on digital platforms, CD, and vinyl, the same day as the game. The soundtrack was confirmed earlier with debut singles including That's It by Yung Lean featuring Future and Metro Boomin.
Miami's Bigger GTA VI Moment
The hosts’ reunion gives GTA VI another direct connection to the Miami it evokes. The game is set for release November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
