Two people are dead after gunfire broke out just after 11 p.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace in Lauderhill, with one victim pronounced dead at the scene and the second dying after being rushed to a hospital. Police say no suspect has been identified and the motive remains unknown.
Officers responding to reports of a shooting found two adults suffering from gunshot wounds, according to CBS Miami. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where they later died. Local Fire Rescue personnel made the initial scene pronouncement, and emergency responders carried the second victim to the hospital before that victim succumbed to their injuries, according to Local 10 News. Lauderhill Police have not released the victims’ identities.
The Lauderhill Police Department has dispatched both its Criminal Investigations Division and crime scene investigators to collect physical evidence, per the same Local 10 News report. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call police, though no suspect description or motive has been made public as the overnight investigation continues.
A Block With a Violent Recent History
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted on this specific stretch of Northwest 43rd Terrace. In May 2024, a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in the same 2000 block left one person dead and another injured, according to a report from iHeart Florida News citing Local 10 News.
Then in June 2025, Lauderhill police arrested a 33-year-old man on two counts of attempted murder after surveillance video showed him walking with a gun before ambushing a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old on a playground in the same block, WSVN 7News reported at the time. The block has also seen non-violent emergencies: an apartment fire there in August 2025, and an impaired driver who crashed into an empty home, knocking down an interior wall, according to separate WSVN and Local 10 News reports.
City's Anti-Violence Push Faces New Test
The shooting adds to a string of unsolved homicides Lauderhill police have faced this year. In August, officers responded to a separate fatal shooting in the 1500 block of Northwest 33rd Avenue, where an adult male died from gunshot wounds shortly after emergency transport, as previously reported by Hoodline. That case also remains unsolved.
Lauderhill had a population of approximately 74,482 in the 2020 census.
Potential Charges and How to Help
If a suspect is identified and arrested, Florida law classifies a premeditated unlawful killing as first-degree murder, a capital felony punishable by life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty under Florida Statutes § 782.04. Prosecutors in capital cases must file intent notices within 45 days of arraignment, according to the Florida Legislature.
Anonymous tipsters who provide information leading to an arrest in Florida murder cases can receive cash rewards of up to $5,000 to $9,500 through Crime Stoppers programs, per the Florida Attorney General’s office. Lauderhill police have asked anyone with information about Thursday night’s shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
