Chicago is starting Thursday under cloudy skies and temperatures around 51 degrees, but the relatively mild morning will give way to a gray, showery afternoon and a colder night. Patchy drizzle is already in the mix, with scattered rain showers becoming more likely later in the day as winds shift and strengthen.
Showers Build Before A Cold Front Arrives
Thursday’s high is expected to remain in the upper 40s, with occasionally gusty west-southwest winds. The hourly forecast keeps drizzle possible through late morning, followed by a better chance of scattered showers from early afternoon into the evening.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for drizzle and showers in Chicago Thursday. A cold front crossing the area later Thursday will turn winds toward the north and northwest, with a 60% chance of showers before midnight.
Friday Turns Breezy And Much Colder
Friday should be mostly sunny but noticeably chillier, with a high near 49 and breezy north-northwest winds. The day will feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
Friday night’s city forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a low around 38 degrees, while freezing temperatures are likely across much of the broader Chicago region away from the urban core. No watches or warnings are posted for Illinois land areas, though the existing Small Craft Advisory for the Illinois and Indiana nearshore waters lasts until 9 a.m. CST Thursday; new advisories begin at 6 p.m., ending at 9 a.m. Saturday for Illinois and 3 p.m. Saturday for Indiana.
Weekend Weather Rebounds Quickly
Saturday brings dry, cool conditions, with skies clearing by morning, followed by another chilly night around 39. Sunday warms to about 57 under sunny skies, and Monday and Tuesday could reach near 60 with dry conditions.
The forecast is a sharper update to Hoodline’s earlier Chicago outlook: the rain and wind arrive first, but the longer-range story now looks notably calmer. Veterans Day is expected to stay mostly sunny with a high near 57.
