Three people in their 20s were wounded early Friday when gunfire tore through the window of an Englewood apartment, striking two women and a man as they sat inside, Chicago police said. The shooting happened around 1:10 a.m. near Marquette Road, according to police.
Police told ABC7 Chicago that the two women and a man were inside the apartment when shots came through the window. A 21-year-old man was shot in the chest and made his own way to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
The two women wounded in the gunfire were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police. A 23-year-old woman was shot in both legs and a 21-year-old woman was shot in one leg; both were listed in fair condition at the hospital, police said.
Area One Detectives Take Over Investigation
Area One detectives are investigating the shooting, according to police. No further details on a suspect or motive have been released in connection with Friday's shooting.
Englewood has seen other violent incidents this year. In one case, a 38-year-old man was fatally wounded after an argument turned into a fight, according to the Chicago Tribune. That incident also unfolded on West Marquette Road, where a man and a woman were inside a residence shortly before 11 p.m. when the man used a sharp object to injure the woman; the Tribune reported the 22-year-old woman suffered stomach lacerations and was listed in good condition at UChicago Medicine, while a firearm was recovered at the scene and charges remained pending as detectives investigated.
A separate shooting left a 24-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the face and stomach in the 800 block of West 66th Street around 11:45 p.m., per CBS News. Police recovered a weapon at that scene as well, and Area One detectives were assigned to investigate. The evidence does not tie either of those earlier cases to Friday's shooting.
A Citywide Picture of Gun Violence
Citywide, the numbers around gun violence tell a complicated story. A July report found there had been 60 shootings around the Deering District, the Tribune noted, with homicides in that district up 183% compared with the same period in 2025, while CPD's broader Area 1 saw a 68% increase. Even so, the same report found that shootings and homicides remained much lower, year-to-date, than they were in 2022.
Neighborhood-level data has limitations. Friday's shooting left three people wounded, showing that a single shooting can affect multiple people.
