A 38-year-old Indianapolis man is facing a warrant for his arrest after a 15-year-old boy told investigators he was sexually assaulted during what was supposed to be a sleepover. Bryant Lockett has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, and court documents describe the teen's account, Lockett's own statements to investigators, and the chain of events that led police to his door.
According to WTHR, online court records show a warrant was issued for Lockett's arrest after he was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor. An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was dispatched on September 14 in response to a report that the boy had been sexually assaulted, the station reports, citing court documents.
Boy Says He Was Invited Over for a Sleepover
Court documents say the 15-year-old told investigators he had been invited to Lockett's home for a sleepover. While the two shared a bed, the boy said, Lockett touched him inappropriately, according to the same court filings cited by the station.
The boy's mother confronted Lockett by text message after learning what had allegedly happened, court documents state. That exchange is referenced in the filings as part of the evidence gathered before police sought the warrant.
Lockett's Statements to Investigators
When investigators questioned Lockett, he described himself as “blackout drunk” and said he could not remember the incident because he had been drinking heavily, according to court documents cited by the station's report. Despite saying he had no memory of what happened, Lockett admitted he had done something inappropriate, the documents state.
Police said Lockett sexually assaulted the 15-year-old boy. The case remains at the charging stage, and the allegations against Lockett have not been proven in court.
How Indiana Law Defines the Charge
Indiana's statute on sexual misconduct with a minor lays out a tiered system of penalties depending on the conduct alleged and the age of the accused. Under Indiana Code, knowingly or intentionally fondling or touching a child under 16 with intent to arouse or satisfy sexual desires is generally a Level 6 felony, but the offense rises to a Level 5 felony when committed by someone at least 21 years old. The same code section provides that sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct by an adult with a child under 16 is generally a Level 5 felony, elevated to a Level 4 felony when the person is at least 21.
