The longtime O'Shucks restaurant in Pinebrook has closed its doors for good, and a new concept called Hounds and Handles is moving into the space, promising a community gathering place built around food, sports, dogs and friends. No opening date has been set, but the new owners say they're working to welcome neighbors back as soon as they can.

According to TownLift, the O'Shucks location in Pinebrook is set to become Hounds and Handles, a gathering place centered on those four pillars. The outlet reports that Hounds and Handles said it is working to open its doors as soon as possible, though it did not provide a specific opening date or additional details about its plans for the space.

A post attributed to O'Shucks had indicated the new restaurant would open later this month, but that timing was not confirmed as a firm date, per the same report. In a letter to neighbors, Hounds and Handles struck a nostalgic note about the space it's inheriting, calling the Pinebrook O'Shucks a place where neighbors became friends and customers celebrated milestones and made memories.

A Thank-You to the O'Shucks Family

Hounds and Handles also expressed gratitude toward the restaurant it's replacing, saying, “We are deeply grateful to the O'Shucks restaurant family, and to all of you, for the community you built here together.” The operators added that they hope to carry that spirit forward, stating, “We look forward to being a wonderful place to meet, relax and enjoy good times together right here in our neighborhood.”

O'Shucks opened its Quarry Village location in 2006, with the aim of making that restaurant family-friendly, the station's report notes. The Pinebrook location opened in late December 2014, according to a 2015 feature in the Park Record that placed O'Shucks The Grill at Pinebrook at 8178 Gorgoza Pines Road and described it as upscale yet casual, with a menu that included elk meatloaf, lobster macaroni and cheese, and Minnesota walleye pike.

O'Shucks Still Operates Elsewhere

With the Pinebrook location now closed, O'Shucks still operates at the White House location on Park Avenue and at a downtown Salt Lake City spot, the report notes. The Quarry Village O'Shucks had remained part of a commercial hub there alongside Macey's and Ace Hardware as of June 2025, according to KPCW, which also reported that the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission had recommended two new retail and office buildings for that shopping center, pending final approval from the Summit County Community Development Director.

The Pinebrook space has a history of doubling as a community hub beyond just food and drink. Ecker Middle School's Jazz Band once played for a crowd at O'Shucks Bar and Grill, a performance TownLift covered, with the band's teacher saying such community gigs gave students a chance to perform beyond their normal curriculum. That legacy of neighborhood gathering appears to be exactly what Hounds and Handles hopes to continue, even as the specifics of its menu, hours and ownership remain unannounced for now.
