Monday's forecast calls for frequent thunderstorms, gusty winds and renewed flooding concerns. The rain could arrive in waves, making some streets and coastal areas especially difficult to navigate.
The forecast calls for a high near 81 degrees, a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms, and east winds around 17 mph with gusts reaching 23 mph. Common rainfall totals over the next 48 hours are 1 to 2 inches, with localized high-end amounts of 2 to 4 inches and a reasonable worst-case total of 5 to 7 inches.
Flooding Threat Continues Monday
A Flood Watch remains in effect across South Florida through Monday afternoon as slow-moving storms could dump heavy rain over the same neighborhoods. The National Weather Service says the main concerns are urban and street flooding, road closures and trouble in areas that already saw water Sunday.
Coastal Miami-Dade is also under a Coastal Flood Advisory through 7 p.m. Monday, with minor to moderate flooding possible around high tide. Low-lying roads, waterfront lots and parks may see water, and drivers should not go around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
Beach Conditions Remain Dangerous
Strong onshore winds and elevated seas are keeping a high risk for rip currents along Atlantic beaches. A swim near a lifeguard is the safest choice; anyone caught in a rip current should stay calm, float and move parallel to the shoreline if able.
Monday night has a low near 74 degrees and a 70% precipitation probability. Tuesday brings another storm chance and a high near 83, although rainfall totals are expected to be lower overall than Monday.
Showers May Ease Around Midweek
Persistent showers are expected to ease around midweek. A weak frontal boundary may affect the region later in the week.
This latest outlook updates Hoodline's earlier forecast as the Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday afternoon and the Coastal Flood Advisory through 7 p.m. Monday. For Monday, the practical advice is simple: allow extra travel time, keep an eye on rapidly rising water and skip the beach if conditions turn rough.
