Deputies were called to a home on Nolan Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Thursday after a neighbor reported a man firing two guns into the woods behind their house, touching off a tense, hours-long scene that ended with a search warrant, six people walking out of the home, and one man facing a felony charge.
According to 14 News, the caller told deputies a man had shot two guns into the woods behind their property, and deputies said other houses stood in the direction the shots were fired. When deputies arrived, they said it looked like a party had been underway, but every light in the house had been switched off.
Loudspeaker Announcements Draw Out Six People
Deputies made announcements over a loudspeaker, and five people came out of the house, the outlet reported. After deputies issued further announcements, a sixth man emerged as well. Even after six people had come out, deputies continued working the scene for several hours before securing a search warrant to go inside.
Once inside, deputies said they found another man still in the house, along with guns and ammunition, per the same report. Jackson Greenfield and the last man found inside were taken in for questioning and DNA swabs, according to the affidavit cited by the station. The other man was released after questioning, while Greenfield was arrested.
What Greenfield Is Charged With
Greenfield is charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, 14 News reported. Under Indiana law, criminal recklessness becomes a Level 6 felony when the offense is committed while armed with a deadly weapon, according to the Indiana General Assembly's criminal code. That statutory language describes the general condition for elevating the charge and does not establish the specific felony level or classification filed in Greenfield's case.
The identities of the other people found at the home, and whether anyone was hurt during the incident, have not been detailed in reporting so far. It's also unclear what has happened with the case since Thursday night, including whether any additional charges have been filed.
