A woman was left in critical condition after being shot early Thursday morning on Indianapolis' northwest side, arriving at Eskenazi Hospital with gunshot wounds as investigators work to piece together what happened. No arrests have been announced, and police have not said what led to the violence.
Investigators believe the shooting happened around 3:10 a.m., according to WIBC 93.1 FM, which reported the shooting occurred near North Tiobbas Avenue and West 16th Street. Fox 59, however, reported that investigators placed the shooting around 3 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of North Somerset Avenue, a discrepancy that has not been resolved between the two outlets' accounts.
Beyond the timing and the woman's arrival at Eskenazi with gunshot wounds, few details have emerged. The station's report notes that police have not released information about what led to the shooting or whether anyone has been taken into custody, leaving the circumstances surrounding the attack unclear for now.
A Second Shooting on the Same Side of Town This Year
Thursday's shooting is not the only recent incident involving a wounded woman in that part of the city. Back in May, two women were shot on Indianapolis' northwest side, with one in what WRTV described as very critical condition and the other listed as stable.
In that May case, IMPD officers responded to the 1400 block of North Tremont Street, near West 16th Street, after a car crashed into a dumpster and shots were reported, per the same outlet. Police said at the time that the shooting followed some type of transaction and an argument over the amount of money. Investigators asked anyone with information on that earlier shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
For now, the circumstances behind the woman's critical injuries early Thursday remain under investigation, with police yet to detail a motive or confirm any suspects.
