A 22-year-old Chicago man is facing charges after police say he drove north on the 3400 block of North Sheffield Avenue and crashed into a building in Wrigleyville, injuring his 23-year-old passenger. The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital with injuries sustained in the crash, and police said no one else was hurt.

According to ABC7 Chicago, Chicago police said the man disobeyed a stop sign and a traffic light before the vehicle struck the building. He was taken into custody and has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.

Charges and Court Date

Police said the man also received several citations stemming from the crash. He is due in court at the end of November, per the same report from police.

The crash adds to a string of alcohol-related wrecks that have rattled the Wrigleyville nightlife corridor in recent months. In a separate case from earlier this year, prosecutors said 21-year-old James Bradley had consumed up to 11 shots of tequila at a Wrigleyville bar before running a red light and crashing into an Uber driver's SUV near Western Avenue and Addison Street, according to CWB Chicago.

A Separate, More Severe Wrigleyville Case

Prosecutors in that earlier case said Bradley's car was travelling 76 mph in a 30 mph zone at the moment of impact, a chain-reaction collision that seriously injured four people, including a childhood friend of Bradley's. He was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm and two counts of aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm, the outlet reported.

Police have not released the identities of either the driver or the injured passenger from the Sheffield Avenue crash, and the extent of the woman's injuries and the damage to the building have not been detailed publicly.
