If you were around yesterday during the Golden Hour, you saw a medium-sized mob ambling down Haight Street with a big sign that read GOLDEN GATE COMMONS / STOP PRIVATIZATION = 1%.
It looks like the HANC debacle isn't over yet. There were about 50-60 people marching down Haight yesterday afternoon with a bunch of signs making a whole lotta noise about the HANC Garden situation. We spotted some HANC members and other local folks who have spoken out about the recycling center's eviction. They were headed towards the park. There was a confused-looking mob of people following and taking pictures, but with such a vague sign, few of the onlookers seemed to really grasp what the fuss was all about. What it was, it turns out, was this. A member of the rally said that the goal was to bring awareness to what was happening at the Kezar recycling center, and to establish grassroots support of a movement that would oppose and prevent further privatization of the city's parks, and the threat to other community gardens like the Hayes Valley Farm.
