Red Vic Progress Report
So many stores have been closing lately, we're thrilled to have two days in a row to talk about Haight Street Merchants who are reinventing! Today's subject: the Red Vic. We spoke to Jack Rix, owner of the Red Vic about the status, now that the building is boarded over. Status beneath the cut.

Several months ago, they got their demo permit and started tearing up the inside. Now, they've got their building permit, which means they can start construction. Jack says, "It's been loud and dusty - apologies to our neighbors! But we will end up with a beautifully renovated building." Jack also told us he had lots of help navigating San Francisco's labyrinthine bureaucracy and figuring out the steps of starting a new business from the Haight's own Regina Dick-Endrizzi, Executive Director of the City’s Office of Small Business. The work should be finished by August of this year, if things go as planned. As you remember, they're giving part of the old lobby space to Alembic next door, and the rest of the space will turn into a 49-person events space and a marketplace with several independent vendors. Here's how the space will be divided:
They're still looking for a Bakery startup to occupy that last space, so if you know anybody who might be interested, tell them to contact Betsy Rix at [email protected]. As for the other spaces, here's what's coming: RAW, a juice business featuring fresh, organic, raw fruit and vegetable juices. The juices will be produced in small batches, using organic produce procured from local farms and vendors. High Cotton, which will serve high-quality hot lunches and dinners-to-go, with a New Orleans-style flavor. Lali’s, a Georgian ("the country, not the state") restaurant with a seasonal focus. Spice Hound, which specializes in fun and tasty (not to mention savory, sweet and exotic) pure and aromatic spices for everyday use. He promised to let us back in for pictures once things get moving, so we'll keep you posted. Also, you can always go over to Second Act for the play-by-play.
