Got an event you want the neighborhood to know about? To be included in our next North Beach weekly roundup, please fill out the form at this link by Tuesday evening.

As evidenced by the sudden abundance of available parking spots, Christmas is here. And while many residents are out of town, there's still plenty to see and do if you're sticking around. But first, let's imbibe on a seasonal thematic nightcap of the week around North Beach and beyond.

The Planning Commission nixed the proposed KRINZE medical cannabis dispensary that was slated for 2627 Taylor St. While the dispensary sponsor plans on appealing, Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District executive director Troy Campbell said it doesn't fit with the retail mix, identity and strategy for the area. There's a "but wouldn't you need to get high to deal with all those tourists?" joke here, but we're not saying it.

The Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development issued a request for proposals for an affordable housing development at 88 Broadway at Front Street near the Embarcadero which will include "up to 25 percent of units for middle-income families and seniors in addition to low-income families, seniors, and the homeless." While the 2017 groundbreaking is a ways off, the MOH is now looking towards the end of February for proposal submissions.

In case you weren't already concerned about the pending Super Bowl City transit headache on Market, news leaked this week that the NFL got the go-ahead to hold live performances from January 30th–February 7th in the eastern side of the Sue Bierman Park between Embarcadero and Drumm Street. Considering all the recent weather, that week sounds like a fine time to visit Tahoe doesn't it?

SocketSite reported yesterday that not only has there been no progress on the proposed Central Subway line extension into North Beach at the location of the former Pagoda Theater, but the land owner has re-applied for permits to start preparing for the development of a new five-story building complete with upscale condos, parking and a 4,700-square-foot restaurant. The SF Business Times notes that even if the land were obtained by the city, a subsequent environmental review would take years, pushing the dwindling possibility of a subway extension to, at best, the very distant future.

Following the sad news that another North Beach institution, Stuart "Stu" Jackson, passed away on December 5th, Hoodline was flooded with drawings from locals created at a variety of North Beach spots to help remember the talented artist.
