Batter Bakery is moving its main location from 2127 Polk St., but don't fret: It's only shifting a half mile north to 1517 Pine St., just off of Polk in Russian Hill. Look for an opening around May 1st.
The reason for the move, said owner Jen Musty, is because since opening December 5th, 2011, Batter has shared a home with Square Meals, but that business is closing. "It was a great space for two businesses to share, but just for a bakery, we don’t need the space," she said. From now until the new location opens, though, it will take over the full shop.
The new location, which is about 1,000 square feet, will be "very similar to Polk," Musty said. Like the current shop, it'll have limited seating so you can enjoy an espresso and one of their popular baked goods like big, chewy cookies, decadent brownies, shortbreads and scones. She added, “We have a really, really loyal customer base here at Polk, and I wanted to make sure we were close enough that they didn’t have to trek across the city to find us.”

Musty also immediately loved the vibe of the new storefront, which used to house a tattoo studio, and will build out an open retail space in front and a working production kitchen in back. "I’m actually really excited about the Pine Street location," she said. "There’s so much changing in that section of Polk; the Middle Polk neighborhood.”
Also, Musty said, “We’ll also be adding more classes at the new location as well,” including cookie decorating, baking, and private events. "I love the teaching component."

Batter also has a kiosk in the FiDi at Kearny and California streets, and a retail space with grab-and-go goodies in 2 Embarcadero Center that began as a holiday pop-up two years ago and took root. It also sells its wares at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (it sources all of its produce except for bananas from local farmers), does wholesale orders and catering, and has a satellite business in Portland, Ore.
