Sunset Week: News Of Note, Upcoming Events, Westward Ho!Photo: Mark Hogan/Flickr

Got an event you want the neighborhood to know about? To be included in our next Sunset weekly roundup, please fill out the form at this link.

Happy New Year, Sunsetters. You may have been busy digging out your back-to-work clothes or lugging your conifer to the curb so goats can eat it (or not). (You might remember these busy guys from our story about Mt. Sutro's fire safety strategy.) We get it, so we've rounded up all the neighborhood news you may have missed in the meantime.

You’ve still got a few days to take advantage of UCSF Fitness Center’s free open house, which ends Sunday. They’re waiving the $150 enrollment fee all month, so if you're weighing a gym membership against a fitness regimen of a more wearable variety, you’ve still got time to decide.

The Bold Italic rounded up the city’s top psychics, and Inner Sunset astrologer Joyce Van Horn made the cut. She specializes in identifying blocks that get you “caught in the riptide” to help you “feel wonderfully alive with your own potential.” For some star-infused guidance with your year ahead, make an appointment to meet at her UCSF-adjacent office.

We recapped some of the more notable recent crime in the area, including a December 13th armed robbery at the 76 gas station on Lincoln and La Playa and a New Year's Eve Golden Gate Park attack involving two dogs and a metal pipe. The suspects in both incidents are still at large, and SFPD welcomes your tips.

SFMTA added a spiffy new bike-lane buffer on Sloat Ave between Great Highway and Skyline and higher-visibility crosswalks at 45th and Sloat. The buffer's part of the agency's citywide effort to create a safer, better-connected bike lane network.

Sunsetters may soon have a new commute option. Commuter van service Chariot is close to gathering enough votes to add a (tentatively named) "Sun-Set-Go" route, which would make six stops between Judah at Sunset Blvd. and Cole Valley on its way downtown. More expensive than Muni but cheaper than a rideshare, a monthly pass works out to about $3 a ride, according to their CEO.

With the New Year comes a new neighborhood for Hoodline. We officially launched our coverage of the Outer Sunset, led by Outer Sunset resident Fiona Lee and our own veteran Inner Sunset editor Walter Thompson. As always, we love to hear from you with tips and story suggestions, so don’t be a stranger in 2016.

To celebrate, we brought you a then-and-now photo essay of the Outer Sunset and Parkside of Yesteryear.
