Good news for Hayes Valley carnivores: early next year, The Meatball Bar will be opening at 602 Hayes St. on the corner of Hayes and Laguna.

The opening is slated for February.

This will be the second location for The Meatball Bar since the restaurant rolled into Sutter St. in FiDi in May.

Co-owners Angelo Sannino and Gianni Chiloiro also own Doppio Zero restaurants in Cupertino and Mountain View, which serve traditional Italian fare, pizzas, and cocktails.

“Everyone loves meatballs," Sannino told Hoodline in March. "We thought, ‘Why not; let’s try to create a restaurant around them.’”

The FiDi spot caters to fast-paced, big city lifestyles, said Chiloiro, but "our new location in Hayes Valley will provide the same quality product with casual table service."

The new outpost will offer an expanded menu—including weekend brunch—to support "a more relaxed dining experience." Initial plans call for approximately 50 seats and an outdoor patio.

In Hayes Valley, The Meatball Bar's beer, wine and dessert menu also will be more extensive, including several craft bottled and draft beers, as well as an expanded wine list.

As ever, all food will continue to prepared in-house daily using only non-GMO and antibiotic-free ingredients.

Chiloiro said a "simple, uncomplicated menu" allows customers to personalize each meal; balls range from Italian classic, to pork, to vegetarian, and sauces include tomato, spicy meat and truffle fondue. The eatery also offer sides like mashed potatoes, risotto, and braised greens in garlic.

Partners plan to offer takeout and catering through a network of local delivery service companies.

"Our goal is to provide healthy, tasty options that can be delivered quickly and inexpensively in a casual environment," said Chiloiro.
