Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable Mexican restaurants around New Orleans, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to get your fill.
1. Rollin' Fatties

Topping the list is Rollin Fatties. Located at 1430 Tulane Ave., the Mexican and Latin American food truck is the highest rated cheap Mexican restaurant in New Orleans, boasting five stars out of 144 reviews on Yelp.
You won't find any red meat on the menu at Rollin' Fatties, but you will find an abundance of flavor, as Roaming Hunger describes. Items stirring up excitement on Yelp include street tacos with red cabbage slaw, chicken "Fattie" burritos, and BBQ tofu "Fattie" bowls.
2. Felipe's Mexican Taqueria

Next up is the French Quarter's Felipe's Mexican Taqueria, situated at 301 N. Peters St., where the establishment aims for a "warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere," according to the taqueria's website. It has a simple approach: "Ingredients should always be fresh and the recipes authentic."
With four stars out of 475 reviews on Yelp, the bar and Mexican spot has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for a cheap option.
3. Taceaux Loceaux

Stroll over to 5535 Tchoupitoulas St. and check out Taceaux Loceaux, another top choice, with Yelpers giving the budget-friendly taco truck 4.5 stars out of 119 reviews.
While the "Messin' with Texas" brisket tacos ($7) were a favorite among Yelpers — save some room for more taco options like "Carnital Knowledge" pork ($6), "Notorious P.I.G." house-made chorizo ($6), and "All Hat, No Cattle" black beans and rice ($5).
4. Taqueria Guerrero

Taqueria Guerrero, is another budget-friendly go-to Mexican spot, with four stars out of 186 Yelp reviews. Head over to 208 N. Carrollton Ave. to see for yourself.
The tamales (2 for $6.50) earned favorable mention a few times on Yelp, and other menu offerings include fajitas de pollo ($12), Carne Asada ($12), and pechuga de pollo a la plancha ($12.75).
5. Catty Shack

Meanwhile, over in Gentilly, Catty Shack has earned five stars out of 22 reviews on Yelp. Dig in at the Tex-Mex spot, which offers tacos and more, by heading over to 1839 Gentilly Blvd. (near the Fairgrounds).
Get ready for an assortment of tacos like the "Big Daddy," homemade smoked brisket, onions, cilantro and verde (3 for $10); the "Catty Fish," local fried catfish with cabbage, chipotle mayo, and cilantro (3 for $10); and the "Crispy Beef," with Angus taco meat, pico, lettuce, cheese and salsa (3 for $10).
