It's time for another look at notable crimes reported by SFPD's Tenderloin Station in the weeks since our last roundup. Unless otherwise noted, all details are from SFPD reports.

Pedestrian in critical condition after collision

A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle just after 10:30 a.m. yesterday, March 5th. The victim, a 58-year-old woman was crossing the street at the intersection of Golden Gate and Leavenworth when she was struck by the driver, 36, who was traveling north on Leavenworth. 

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. The driver, who was uninjured, was not arrested.

Store employee attacked after filming argument

A man said to be in his twenties attacked a store employee during an argument around 4:58 p.m. on March 3rd on the 500 block of O’Farrell Street (near Taylor). 

The argument turned more serious after the employee, a 36-year-old man, took out his phone to record it. The suspect slapped away his phone, then attacked him before fleeing on foot. The victim was hospitalized for a non-life-threatening head injury; no arrest has been made. 

Man injured in potential hammer attack

Around 8:14 a.m. on March 3rd, a 45-year-old man was struck on the head with an object, possibly a hammer, near the intersection of 7th and Market streets. The victim refused to provide any further information about the incident to police, but was treated for a non-life-threatening head injury. 

Security guard attacked after confronting shoplifter

A security guard at a business near the intersection of 4th and Market streets confronted a 26-year-old suspect who triggered a shoplifting sensor around 3:30 p.m. on February 28th. The suspect then punched the victim, knocking him unconscious, and fled on foot. He was arrested by SFPD officers nearby.

Man stabbed in the back in intersection

Around 10:30 p.m. on February 25th, a 32-year-old man was walking at the intersection of O’Farrell and Mason streets when he felt a sharp pain in his lower back. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening laceration to his back, but refused to provide further information about the incident to police. 

Man attacked in three-on-one phone robbery

A 34-year-old man was approached by three unknown suspects around 1:53 a.m. on February 25th, near the intersection of Powell and Market streets. One of the suspects pushed the victim to the ground, before all three suspects attacked the victim and stole his phone. The man suffered a scraped forehead and left arm, but refused medical treatment. No arrests have been made. 

Tenderloin police arrest 50 people in five-hour sting

On February 20th, Tenderloin Station conducted a five-hour sting to arrest 50 individuals, including 38 fugitives, with outstanding warrants for crimes that include burglary, aggravated assault, and drug dealing. The operation was part of a broader effort to increase foot beat officers and undercover operations in the Tenderloin and downtown. 

Man robbed after being knocked to the ground

Around 11:34 p.m. on February 17th, an unknown man knocked down a 46-year-old man with an unidentified object on the unit block of 6th Street (near Market). The suspect then stole the victim’s wallet, cash, and bank cards. The man was treated for a non-life-threatening laceration to his forehead, but the suspect has not been identified. 

Woman attacked with bike lock while reading

On February 15th around 6:53 a.m., a 32-year-old woman was sitting on the sidewalk on the 500 block of Jones Street (near O’Farrell) reading a book when a man said to be 58 years old attacked her with a bicycle U-lock. The woman was treated for a non-life-threatening forehead injury. The suspect has not been arrested. 

Arrests at Tenderloin station

Tenderloin Station officers made more than 580 arrests in the first two months of 2019, including the 50-plus people arrested on February 20th. According to the station, the first 55 days of 2019 saw 18 percent fewer assaults, 43 percent fewer auto burglaries, and 14 percent fewer robberies relative to the same period in 2018.
