One person was killed and another injured after a residential fire in Presidio Heights on Sunday morning.
The two-alarm fire occurred in a three-story residential building at 3740 Sacramento St. (between Spruce and Maple), near the California Pacific Medical Center campus. It broke out around 11:15 a.m., and was quelled just after noon.
Firefighters had to rescue two people trapped inside the building, and "one of these rescued victims has succumbed to their injuries," San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Lt. Jonathan Baxter said on Twitter. The Chronicle has reported that the deceased victim was an elderly woman.
The other person was also injured, and was taken to a trauma center in stable condition.
No further information about the victims' identities was available at press time.
The fire broke out in the rear of the building, and its cause remains under investigation.
Initial reports stated that three people were trapped in the house, but Baxter later said that the third person was not at home when the fire occurred.
Baxter said that the American Red Cross had been notified to provide services to the remaining residents.
