In a move that champions diversity, the Illinois Department of Transportation has named the standout minority- and female-owned businesses of 2023. Announced at the 33rd Today's Challenge, Tomorrow's Reward conference, four businesses, and one individual received honors for their pivotal roles in shaping a more inclusive environment in state projects.
During a bustling two-day event on February 21 and 22, which brought together a record number of over 400 delegates from various contracting sectors, Brewster Companies and KAD Engineering LLC were among the proud recipients of this year's top honors. With aspirations to always go above and beyond, The Killian Corporation bagged the Prime of the Primes accolade, affirming their commitment to leading the charge for inclusivity.
As reported by Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman, "This year's conference was the best one ever held at IDOT, helping to pave the way for a more level playing field and strengthen communities up and down the state." It stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to assist diversity in the field of state-contracted business.
Amidst the honorees was Ronald Brown, who took home the Roberto Orozco Memorial Award. Not only have these awards highlighted the impressive work of the state's minority- and female-owned businesses, but they have also served to remind us that the road to a holistic and inclusive corporate landscape is steadily being paved. Those interested in joining the movement can look forward to registering for next year's affair at IDOT's official website.
