A known San Francisco gang member has been hit with a hefty prison sentence after pleading guilty to firearms charges. Shadon Caprice Mitchell was sentenced to 57 months behind bars for stashing an arsenal, including four guns and over 100 rounds of ammunition, in his home, as the U.S. Attorney's Office in Northern California and the ATF announced.
Authorities have had their eye on 32-year-old Mitchell since 2022, when he became a person of interest in assault case involving a firearm. The San Francisco Police Department's discovery of the firearms stash at Mitchell’s residence was a break in the case, leading to his indictment last December. A member of the Mac Block gang, his rap sheet includes prior convictions for gun-related offenses.
During his hearing, U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria laid down the 57-month sentence, following Mitchell's guilty plea to one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. This isn't Mitchell's first confrontation with the law. His criminal history is rife with violence. He was previously sentenced in 2014 for an assault with a semi-automatic weapon and again in 2016, for having a loaded gun illegally, the U.S. Attorney's Office noted.
Mitchell is expected to serve three years of supervised release after completing his term in the slammer. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Buszin spearheaded the case against Mitchell with help from Paralegal Specialist Tina Rosenbaum. The ATF conducted the intricate investigation that ultimately netted Mitchell.
